Free-PSA is classified as a Tumor Marker.
Clinical use:
Measurement combined with total PSA for calculation of the Free PSA / Total PSA ratio.
A higher ratio is found in case of benign prostatic hypertrophy allowing discrimination with prostate cancer.
The Free PSA / Total PSA ratio is a valuable tool for the differential diagnosis of prostate cancer.
